Ronja — another haunting track from our Swedish Sorceress

no cover no

Ronja emerges from the depths of a freezing Nordic lake to exact a chilling revenge.

"Can you feel something, very near?"

We bury our debts in the dark water and expect them to stay dissolved. We treat the past like canvas wrapped in stone, sinking it down into the bottomless black, hoping the surface stays still.

It never does.

On No Cover No, Ronja pulls a classic Scandinavian ghost story from the silt and drags it straight into the modern ritual circuitry of The Datura Tapes.

This is Scandi-noir stripped of its sleekness and re-engineered as an intimate, terrifying act of vengeance.

Driven by a deep, commanding feminine contralto and surrounded by dissonant, microtonal choral pads, the track rejects any easy resolution—there is only the freezing weight of the lake.

What begins as a fragile, shivering whisper under a pale moon slowly sharpens into an unavoidable acid-bass growl, a relentless ritual spell that climbs the bedroom wall while you sleep. It is a story of betrayal, the violent breaking of a triangle, and a soul pulled from the deep to walk the sour path of revenge.

“The betrayed woman coming back from the dead is a universal tale” Ronja says. “Female spectral power is often a vehicle for agency that many women feel is denied to them in real life. I wanted to write my own table turning ghost story and I’m not a little gleeful as the creeping dread of the wronged lover’s revenge escalates across the song.”

“I have to pay tribute to the Eurythmics for inspiration. Their song, Aqua, recorded at the height of their powers, where a woman describes her own murder has always stuck with me. My song has a little more epic melodrama to it, I guess I just got carried away in the story.”

Yet here I am back, from the lake so cold

I never shiver now, nor grow old

Where you sunk me, all canvas wrapped

From that black I come floating back
